Khartoum - Arabstoday
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti stressed that there is a general consensus in Darfur on the Doha Peace Document, saying that it had changed perceptions about peace and brought practical steps that paired the peace process with development, stability and popular support. In remarks published here Wednesday, Karti said that everyone in Darfur is aware that the agreement is the irreversible safe way for them. He stressed that the Doha Peace Agreement put an end to the conflict in Darfur and that the security breaches that happen sometimes are desperate attempts defeated by the determination of the Darfurian people. On the other hand, the Sudanese Minister expressed his country's rejection of UN Security Council's intervention in the existing conflict between Khartoum and Juba, pointing that the regional details are the responsibility of the African Union. He explained that he prefers to keep the relationship between Sudan and South Sudan as an African issue, emphasizing at the same time that any international role should be in the framework of the African mediation. Commenting on President Omar al-Bashir's announcement of a state of emergency, Karti said that this came to legalize the military situation taking place in the concerned areas and not in all border areas.
