The second session of the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) weekly open Ramadan Majlis focused ont he remarkable efforts of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports general secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa to develop football, continentally and internationally.
Shaikh Salman, who is also president of the Asian Football Confederation and vice-president of World football’s governing body FIFA, was the chief guest for this week’s sport majlis in Ramadan, an initiative running for the second consecutive year.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar welcomed Shaikh Salman along withrepresentatives of sports associations, athletes, media, parliament and municipality councils, who engaged in a number of highly-debated sports-related discussions.
The attendees also had talks on some other significant sports subjects, including the key successes achieved by the BOC over the past years and the role of its president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the development of sports in the kingdom.
The attendees also had talks on the achievements and contributions of Bahrain’s most pioneer former athleteswho excelled with their dedication, tireless efforts and devotion, and called to document the athletes’ careers to remain a legacy for the nation’s coming generations.
Among other high-ranking sports officials attending the first meeting were sports federations presidents –Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (cycling), Abdulla Al Dossary (gymnastics), Ahmed Al Nuaimi (bowling), Saleem Elyas (cricket) and Khalid Al Khayyat (mixed martial arts), in addition to representatives of sports federations of athletics, table tennis, volleyball, handball, fencing and motor sports.
This initiative is part of the BOC programmes launched as per the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOCPresident, aimed to promote sports in general and strengthen ties with the Bahrain sports society.
