Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa emphasized the importance of the Penal Code and alternative measures as one of the core initiatives aimed to develop the criminal procedures system.

This project aims to consolidate an effective penal and correctional policy aimed to achieve deterrence and prevention and to rehabilitate inmates into positive members of the community, the minister told Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

He stressed the effective role of alternative punishment of rehabilitation and re-inclusion of inmates as good members into the community after rectification of delinquent behaviours and to prevent recurrence of crime.

The penal and rectification measures will help reduce crime rate and boost their sense of responsibility and respecting the law. He added that the inmates’ correctional and rehabilitative aspect is equally important as the policy of punishment, he said.
