The State of Qatar has called for making use of all capabilities in confronting and curbing the criminal challenges of organized crime, corruption, drugs, money laundering and terrorism.This came in a speech delivered by HE Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, advisor to HE the minister of interior, at the opening of the 26th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which started in the Austrian capital and continues until May 26 .
Dr. Al-Mal welcomed the efforts made by Member States to implement the Doha Declaration of the Thirteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, hosted by the State of Qatar in April 2015.
He underscored the importance of launching the global program for the implementation of the recommendations of the Doha Declaration in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and funding its projects for youth crime prevention through sport, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners, education for justice, in addition to the integrity of the judiciary and the prevention of corruption.
He also pointed out that the State of Qatar has allocated an annual award in the name of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani, in line with international efforts to achieve integrity, transparency and fighting corruption.
Concluding his speech, HE Dr. Al-Mal called on Member States to support the draft resolution submitted by the States of Qatar and Japan on follow-up to the implementation of the recommendations of the Thirteenth Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice as well as the preparations for the Fourteenth Congress to be hosted by Japan.
The opening session was attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Austria Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al -Thani, and members of Qatar's delegation participating in the session.
