The Public Security Department (PSD), on Saturday, said it hasn't issued any alerts on security measures at the New Year's Eve.
In a statement issued today, PSD confirmed as "untrue" the warnings that people circulate on social media platforms, noting that its statements and messages are only issued by state and official media outlets not via other means.
The PSD's statement described as "incorrect" the warnings that talked about closing streets in the Al Zarqa Governorate, eastern Amman, and not go to malls in the New Year's Eve, saying those warnings are targeting home security and peace of citizens, calling on citizens not to pay attention to those messages and normally exercise their routine activities.
The PSD called on everybody to only publish and circulate news and messages issued by official authorities, and not to give those, who are trying to tamper with the homeland security, the opportunity to achieve their goals in targeting citizens peace and security.
it said spreading rumors and unreliable news worries citizens and harms Jordan's reputation, adding that it will pursue the source of those rumors and messages and take legal actions against those involved.
