The State of Palestine has urged the international community to intensify efforts aimed at supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and freedom, establishing a sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds as its capital, and achieving justice for the Palestinian refugees. In a press conference held on the occasion of the World Refugee Day observed annually on June 20, the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, Somaia Barghouti pointed out that the Palestinian refugees represent the largest number of refugees in the world. Palestine refugee problem is the oldest and largest refugee problem, she said, adding that for more than six decades the Palestine refugees have endured great injustices and hardships since the 1948 Nakba. Refugees make up nearly half the Palestinian population, which is estimated at 11.6 million worldwide, she added. The Palestinian refugees are still waiting for justice and millions of them, who are registered in the United Nations Agency for Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), are living refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Barghouti concluded .
