Ramadan aid

The families of 2,092 armed forces and security personnel, who fell in the line of duty, will receive cash aid as a gesture from His Majesty King Abdullah to mark the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

The sums will be dispensed by the Royal Court in coordination with the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army, and security agencies, through a special fund, which was set up for that purpose at the behest of the King earlier this year. King Abdullah had ordered the allocation of JD5 million from the Royal Hashemite Court’s budget to the fund, which was established as an expression of the King’s appreciation of and pride in the comrades-in-arms and his keenness to offer the necessary support for them and their families.

The fund had opened donations from private sector institutions as a show of social solidarity and to recognise the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.

Under a directive by the King to Royal Court officials yesterday, financial aid will be provided to 30,000 underprivileged households nationwide to secure their needs during Ramadan. His Majesty also ordered authorities to carry out initiatives to support the elderly, orphans and disabled people as a Ramadan gesture.
