The Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Centre, OSHAD, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, ZHO, with the aim of enhancing their co-operation and establishing a strategic partnership, to raise the awareness of people of determination about occupational safety and health requirements.

The MoU will adopt the "Taqat Programme" to raise the relevant awareness of people of determination who are employees and students, as well as to train government and private authorities on the required procedures in assessing their occupational needs, reduce the risks facing this segment of the community and provide a safe and healthy working environment, in line with the requirements and standards of OSHAD. The programme will also include publishing awareness brochures in Braille for people with disabilities related to eyesight.

Dr. Jaber Eidha Al Jaberi, Director-General of OSHAD, said that the Centre is planning to prepare a guideline manual on the occupational safety and health requirements for people of determination, in co-operation with the ZHO. He added that the programme will include three main phases, starting with training people of determination who are employees and raising their awareness, in co-ordination with relevant government and private authorities, which will focus on training the employees and their co-workers while including occupational safety and health principles in the curricula of people of determination who are students.

Abdullah Abdul Ali Al Humaidan, Acting Secretary-General of the ZHO, welcomed the signing of the MoU and the joint co-operation between both parties.

He added that the organisation aims to maintain the requirements of occupational safety and health for their staff, who are people of determination, as well as for their other employees.

The organisation also appreciates the role of official and private institutions and authorities and is seeking, through the signing of the MoU, to establish its partnership and co-operation and build its long-term relations with OSHAD, he further added.

Al Humaidan stressed that, as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of the ZHO, and other ZHO board members, the organisation is also seeking to establish strategic partnerships with government and private authorities, with the aim of providing the best services for its targeted categories. The organisation has, therefore, signed other MoUs and agreements with several specialist bodies, he said in conclusion.
