Benabdellah and Benkirane

The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) has no objection to the formation of the new government from the majority parties before the Oct. 7 elections, PPS Secretary General Mohamed Nabil Benabdellah said Wednesday in Rabat.

According to Moroccan Press agency MAP, Benabdellah said that Benkirane presented an offer to the parties he met, consisting of a proposal to form the government based on the former majority, consisting of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), the National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Popular Movement (MP) and PPS, claiming that his party has no objection to this composition.

The appointed Head of Government met yesterday with President of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), Aziz Akhannouch, and Secretary General of the Popular Movement (MP) Mohand Laenser, as part of the ongoing consultations to form the government.

Speaking to the press following his meeting, Akhannouch said that he would examine this offer with his partners: the Popular Movement (MP) and the Constitutional Union (UC), with a view to continuing these consultations “within the next two days”.

For his part, Laenser said that the offer made by Benkirane, based on the majority in force before the elections of 7 October 2016, “is acceptable in principle.”
