DUBAI - Emirates Voice
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, ordered to rename Al Thoraya Street in Dubai after Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam.
The move was to recognise the deceased’s great contributions and pioneering role in the march of the Union through various national positions and campaigns.
The decision was also to appreciate Dr Abdullah’s outstanding and prominent role in leading the movement of thought and enlightenment in the Emirati society and his participation in the consolidation of the Gulf media, especially through Dar Al Khaleej, which he co-founded with his brother.
Dr Abdullah passed away on Thursday and was laid to rest in Sharjah on Friday.
Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam Street passes through Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and covers a six-kilometre stretch and has two lanes. It starts from Umm Suqeim Road, near the Dubai Police Academy along Al Sufouh Road and extends within the Dubai Media City, crossing Sheikh Zayed Road towards the Greens area and ends at Al Khail first Street, at the entrance to the Jebel Ali horse racecourse.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the RTA would implement the directive immediately and would replace the signs in the coming days.
