Sabry told Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper that 30 complaints had been filed with the general prosecutor against Tantawi and former chief of staff, Sami Anan, over the killing of protesters following the January 25 Revolution. The military council, headed by Tantawi, ruled Egypt for nearly 18 months following the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.
