Syrian refugees

The Jordanian army received over the past 24 hours 100 male and female Syrian refugees of different ages, according to a statement on Tuesday by the Jordanian Armed Forces.

The refugees were placed at shelters and camps set up to receive them.

Medical services and necessary first aid for emergency cases were provided.

Meanwhile, the official in charge of foreign relations at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) Nedaa Yassine said most Syrian refugees outside the camps live below the poverty line, with only 68 dirhams per month (96 dollars).

They are in dire need of financial aid to meet their basic daily needs, she added.

According to the (UNHCR), Jordan is giving shelter to more than 640,000 Syrian refugees who have been streaming into Jordan since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in March 2011.
