NMC will appoint two Happiness Officers in all its facilities.

NMC Healthcare, the UAE's biggest private healthcare provider, will appoint Happiness officers in all its facilities, its CEO Prasanth Manghat said on Tuesday. The announcement coincided with the company's celebration of its first Foundation Day on August 1.

"UAE is the first country to create a Ministry of Happiness. Aligning ourselves with the government goal, NMC will appoint two Happiness Officers in all its facilities," said Manghat during a Press interaction at the NMC Royal Hospital in Khalifa City.

"In the healthcare industry, we do not buy and sell anything else except the time of our doctors and nurses. Their emotions get drained while dealing with the pain of patients on a daily basis. The Employee Happiness Officers in each of our hospitals will take care of the happiness of our employees."

NMC employees a workforce of 12,000 employees. "There will also be Patient Happiness Officers who will go beyond the usual care the patients receive from doctors, nurses and counsellors," said Manghat.

The CEO said the company will also pay Dh10 on behalf of every patient visiting the NMC hospitals across the world on August 1, towards the global child refugee crisis. "The Year of 2017 has been declared as the Year of Giving. NMC wants to make sure our first Foundation Day is celebrated in that manner, aligned to the government goal of encouraging giving."

He said the displacement of millions of children from their home countries and lack of food and shelter is more painful than the medical issues many patients deal with.

NMC Healthcare operates 43 hospitals in countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Brazil and Columbia. The healthcare giant treats four million patients yearly across its global facilities.

The Foundation Day was marked with colourful celebrations in all its hospitas in the UAE, and also abroad.
