The Federal National Council, FNC, during the 19th session of its second ordinary session of the sixteenth legislative term, which began on 6th November 2016, and concluded on 13th June 2017, approved 15 laws, having discussed and amended and introduced a number of articles and items in the economic, cultural, environmental, health, justice, communications, impact and labour sectors.
The FNC has thus worked on nearly 32 draft laws passed after amendments and the introduction of a number of articles and items. During the first regular session, the council held 13 meetings on draft laws related to the services sector, the first with four bills, followed by environmental and economic sectors as well as social, security, political, cultural and pension issues.
The council was keen to schedule its meetings to discuss the largest number of draft laws and issues of interest to the country and citizens, in implementation of the parliamentary strategy for the years 2016 - 2021, which represents a model of balanced parliamentary work that provides all the best for the happiness of the people of the UAE and supports the wise leadership's directions in achieving the interests of the country, while achieving the goals of UAE Vision 2021 under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Among the priority initiatives according to the objectives of the strategic plan of the council are the following; developing modern methodologies for studying and discussing draft laws, preparing and activating a mechanism for normative comparisons in the field of legislation, preparing and implementing the parliamentary control plan, and developing innovative mechanisms to support the effective exercise of the council's supervisory means, as well as the development and implementation of an integrated methodology to follow up the recommendations of the council and build effective partnerships with relevant authorities to exchange information and knowledge.
