The Egyptian 2010 standards regarding the ergot fungi infection percentage in wheat will be enforced on wheat shipments and new wheat tenders, Agriculture Minister Essam Fayed said.
During a meeting on September 21, the Cabinet underlined that Egyptian agricultural quarantine legislations have to be revised to cope with international standards, Fayed said.
The agriculture and health ministries had issued a joint report specifying that an infection of 0.05% with ergot fungi in wheat not intended for grinding would not affect the health of humans or plants, which complies with the 2010 standards, he said.
