Cairo - Arab Today
A national campaign aiming at promoting public awareness of the hazards of illegal immigration will be launched on Thursday.
Ambassador Naela Gaber, the head of the National Coordinating Committee for Preventing and Combating Illegal Immigration, said the campaign, approved by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, will be launched at a seminar on the role of media in fighting illegal immigration.
The day-long seminar will be held at the Diplomatic Studies Institute.
Gaber told MENA that the seminar aims at holding dialogue with all officials working in the audio and visual media over the problem of illegal immigration.
The timing of the campaign is of significance as it coincides with the beginning of the summer season, which is considered the season of illegal immigration, she said. The campaign also comes shortly before Egypt announces its national anti-immigration strategy, she added.
Such strategy reflects interest by sovereign Egyptian sides in fighting human trafficking and enlightening people of the dangers they are exposed to during illegal immigration, including arrest, fines and death.
In November, the Egyptian cabinet approved a draft resolution against illegal immigration and called for launching a national campaign to promote public awareness of the risks of illegal immigration.
