A state of cautious calm prevailed in the al-Hudida province in Yemen after Friday's violent clashes between police and fishermen who had seized an Egyptian fishing boat. The confrontations took place as the Egyptian ship was leaving the fishing port in al-Hareth province to the trade harbor in al-Hudida province. One youth was killed and 30 others were injured. Eighty people were arrested for seizing a licensed Egyptian fishing boat. According to Yemeni fishermen, the Egyptian boat, "Golden Star", tried to run over a Yemeni fishing boat and swept away fishing nets set by Yemeni fishermen. The Yemeni fishermen alleged that the boat was not sailing in the permitted area but two nautical miles away from the coasts of al-Hudida. A source at the Egyptian Embassy in Sanaa said Ambassador Ashraf Aql is closely following the case and inquiring after the crew of the Egyptian ship. A security source in Yemen told MENA a probe is going on with a group of Yemeni fishermen who held the Egyptian boat.
