Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee (The Charter Committee), Mohammed Juma Fuzaia, has praised Bahrain’s submitting of a report on its human rights situation to the Charter Committee which will discuss it in the coming period.

The move proves that the Kingdom of Bahrain, during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is on the right track towards strengthening democracy, consolidating freedoms and supporting human rights, he said.

This came as the Chairman of the Human Rights Committee at the Council of Representatives, MP Abdulrahman Bu Majeed met here Mohammed Juma Fuzaia, the Chairman of the Charter Committee, which is based on the Arab Charter on Human Rights which was adopted by the 16th Arab League’s Summit in 2004. The Kingdom of Bahrain ratified in 2006.

MP Bu Majeed stressed the great importance of the Arab Court for Human Rights, which was launched as per an initiative by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and has been widely welcomed across the Arab world.

The two sides discussed cooperation between the Human Rights Committee at the Council of Representatives and the Arab Human Rights Committee to achieve joint goals.

Cooperation includes holding workshops and lectures that tackle all human rights-related issues and topics, they said.

MP Bu Majeed stressed the need to coordinate stances at regional and international gatherings to achieve the aspirations of Arab peoples for more freedoms and human rights, praising the efforts exerted by the Charter Committee and its chairman to promote human rights principles at the level of Arab countries.

The Arab Human Rights Committee chairman praised the role played by the Council of Representatives, led by Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla, the Human Rights Committee, and the Legislative Branch in Bahrain, for their interest in consolidating efforts to support human rights.
