The Kingdom of Bahrain

The Kingdom of Bahrain stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and intervene to stop the grave Israeli practices and to respect the international conventions, laws and resolutions of the United Nations regarding the status of the city of Jerusalem, as well as to protect the Palestinian people and their holy sites.

This was stressed in a speech that was delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Rowaiei, before the Security Council during the open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, on Tuesday, 25 July 2017. The open debate was chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of China, Liu Jieyi, who is the president of the Security Council for the month of July.

The Kingdom of Bahrain condemned Israel’s ban on holding prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque, a move that completely contradicts the freedom to practice religious rites and is a flagrant infringement of Muslim sentiments around the world. He also expressed concern and regret at the violence that took place in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and stressed the need to immediately open Al-Aqsa Mosque for worshipers.

Al Rowaiei reiterated that the Palestinian cause will continue to be the top priority to the Kingdom of Bahrain, which supports all efforts aimed at finding a just and lasting solution to this issue based on the two-state solution in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. He added that achieving a comprehensive peace is directly linked to restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent State on the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, and ending the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian territories as well as to cease all settlement activities by Israel.
