Azhar University students continued on Wednesday their protests inside the Azhar Sheikhdom premises waiting for the outcome of a meeting of the Higher Council of Azhar under Grand Imam of Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayyeb to follow up the crisis of the mass food poisoning of Azhar University dormitory students. The students set up a stage in front of the main entrance of Azhar Sheikhdom and they broadcast national songs and chanted slogans demanding the resignation of Azhar University President Dr Osama el-Abd. Meanwhile, study was resumed in most faculties of Azhar and the students organized marches inside the university campus and repeated slogans demanding the president of the university to step down. The students also demanded an improvement of the services at the university's dorms. Traffic movement was normal at Al-Nasr road as many students of Azhar university joined their colleagues in the protests held in front of the Azhar Sheikhdom premises. Some sources said that the initial report of the Health Ministry on the mass poisoning incident indicated a pollution of cooking pots and that a power cut thas led to the spread of bacteria to the chicken that was cooked and served to the students before getting sick. More than 500 students of an Azhar university dormitory suffered acute intestinal catarrah after they ate their lunch meals.
