The Awqaf Ministry denied reports on its involvement in the case of Talaat Shabeb who breathed his last at Luxor police station.

A statement released by Awqaf Ministry late Saturday refuted claims by Shabeb's sister that Awqaf minister proposed a compensation valued a million pounds to quit the lawsuit against a number of police officers who face charges of beating Shabeb to death.

The statement asserted that the minister has no relation to the case and by any means did not intervene in it.

Rabaa el Rashidi, sister of the victim, said all Shabeb's family demanded a revenge from her brother's killers.

Shabeb was arrested in November, 2014 on suspicion of possessing drugs. He was taken to a Luxor police station, wherein it is alleged that he was tortured to death.

Four commissioned police officers and nine non-commissioned police officers are defendants in the case.

Shebeb’s case has received the support of human rights organisations and lawyers.
