The Arab League

The Arab League welcomed the arrival of the Libyan Presidential Council of the National Accord Government, led by Fayez Sarraj, in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

Since Libya’s airspace had been closed by the existing Tripoli-based authorities, the prime minister designate, Fayez Sarraj, and seven members of the Presidential Council travelled from Tunisia by sea to the city’s Abusita naval base.

In a statement Thursday, the pan-Arab body said its Secretary General Nabil el Araby held consultations with Libya's neighboring countries, including Algerian Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Minister Abdelkader Messahel, Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in light of the Tunisia declaration issued in the 8th meeting of the foreign ministers of Libya's neighbors.

During the consultations, Araby stressed the importance of supporting the Libyan national accord government and helping it perform its duties from Tripoli.

Araby urged all Libyan political powers and parties, mainly the members of the House of Representatives, to cooperate with the national accord government.

He also called on the country's chieftains, dignitaries and NGOs to back the government formed under the political solution ratified in Morocco's Skhirat in December .
