Cairo - Arab Today
The Arab League ratified the Cairo declaration for Arab women and the strategic plan for Arab women advancement 2015-2030.
The ratification aims to empower women and improve their conditions at the political,
economic and social levels, while drawing up mechanisms to end all forms of violence
against women, the pan-Arab body said in a statement issued today on International Women’s Day.
While being completely aware of the close connection between women empowerment and
achieving sustainable development, the Arab League Council at the ministerial level had
ratified the regional strategy and the executive action plan for the protection of Arab
women, it said.
The plan will provide a framework for Arab countries when laying down national plans and
executive programs for all UN Security Council resolutions on the protection and
empowerment of women as they represent an active and important element in making peace and
rebuilding nations, the statement said.
The strategy comes at a time of unprecedented political conditions in the region, where
women suffer from occupation, displacement, forced migration, child loss and systematic
violations and terrorism in the name of religion, culture and sectarianism, it added.
