Cairo - Arab Today
The Arab League has downplayed media claims of a crisis between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Relations between the two countries have not reached that point, said Hossam Zaki, the AL assistant secretary general, in a press conference Sunday.
"I don't believe relations [between Egypt and Saudi Arabia] have reached the level of a crisis," Zaki stressed.
"If we follow statements by officials concerned here and there, we can't possibly point to a crisis," Zaki said, insisting it is the media that is promoting that approach.
Zaki made it clear that AL chief Ahmed Abul Gheit is doing his best to bring closer views of all member states, and not Egypt and Saudi Arabia in particular.
He termed as "inessential" disputes among Arab countries, noting that all are well aware of what poses a threat to national security.
More efforts should be exerted to face the current Arab challenges, Zaki told reporters.
