Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday
Some 78 abandoned buildings across the capital city have recently been demolished, according to the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City. The demolitions, which included 10 commercial buildings, 33 residential villas, eight government buildings and 27 porta-cabins, were undertaken as part of an ongoing campaign to improve the appearance and public health standards of neighbourhoods. The structures had all been abandoned for lengthy periods, the municipality statement added. Prior to knocking them down, the municipality served notices to building owners. When the owners did not demolish the buildings, the municipality had the buildings demolished and charged owners the costs of demolition and waste removal. Source: Gulfnews.com
