Egyptian police officers charged

West Cairo General Attorney Abdel Rahman Shetla decided on Sunday to remand in custody one officer and three non-commissioned officers for four days pending investigations over torture charges.

The defendants are accused of torturing to death a citizen, identified as Magdi Makeen, at Amiriya police station after they arrested him.

The prosecutor also decided to release on bail four other non-commissioned officers who were arrested in connection with the case.

The defendants also face charges of forging official documents of Amiriya police station.
