At least seven Taliban rebels including their local commander were killed in a drone strike in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan on Saturday, said officials.
A senior border police official, Col. Muhammad Ayub Hussainkhel told the media that the strike took place in the Lalpora district of Nangarhar, killing at least seven insurgents. The official said that the drone targeted the suspected insurgents in Much Megi area killing a Taliban commander Nazir Afridi who was involved in the insurgency in Nangarhar, adding that the civilians were not harmed in the attack. According to police headquarters of Nangarhar, the group of insurgents was traveling in Mach Meri area when it came under the unmanned aircraft strike destroying the vehicle completely. The strike came at a time when Afghan local forces are struggling to control the insurgency across Afghanistan after withdrawal of NATO/ISAF forces from the country in the end of last year.
