At least four people were killed early on Saturday in an explosion inside the largest US military base in Afghanistan, NATO said.

    The explosion struck at dawn inside the heavily fortified Bagram Airfield north of Kabul, as the Taliban steps up attacks on Western targets before the onset of winter, when fighting usually ebbs.

    The district governor of Bagram, said that at least three people were killed and 13 injured in the blast, which he said occurred near a dining facility. He said the cause of the blast was unclear.
