A total 51 militants have been killed in the Afghan army's latest operations, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Sunday morning.

The ministry said in a statement that four Taliban insurgents were wounded while 22 armed insurgents were also detained during the raids which had been conducted in 14 out of the country's 34 provinces since early Saturday.

About six army personnel were also killed in insurgents' firing and roadside bomb attacks during the operations, according to the statement.

The Taliban militant group, which ruled the country before they were ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, staging ambush and suicide attacks, killing combatants as well as civilians.
