Taliban launches attack on Afghan government security agency

At least seven militants were killed and 12 others were wounded as the coordinated attack on Charkh district government compound ended.

A heavy explosion rocked Charkh district in central Logar province earlier Thursday after a group of insurgency launched a coordinated attack on district government compound by detonating a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED), Khaama Press reported.

According to the local government officials, several gunmen took positions in some buildings near the government compound and started exchanging fire with the security forces.

Provincial governor spokesman Salim Khal Saleh confirmed the attack was launched around 5:00 am local time and lasted for several hours before the militants were pushed back.

He said at least two security personnel were wounded in the attack and no casualties were incurred to the civilians.

However, a member of the provincial council said an Afghan soldier lost his life in the attack and several others including the security chief of Charkh district were wounded.

The Taliban claimed responsibility behind the incident.
