“Instead of learning from previous experiences, some countries gave green light to Israeli forces to bombard and invade the Gaza Strip,” Monday said a statement by the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Negotiation Affairs Department.
“The international community has the legal and moral responsibility to protect the Palestinian population living under Israeli occupation and to hold Israel accountable regarding its severe violations of the international humanitarian law,” the statement said.
“Lack of accountability will continue to fuel Israeli atrocities and crimes. Lack of international action will continue to increase the list of people killed,” it added
During the second day of ground invasion in Gaza, Israeli occupation forces heavily shelled the neighborhood of Al Shujaia, east of Gaza City, killing at least 60, including 17 children, 14 women and 4 elderly, as well as injuring at least 210.
“The Israeli aggression has forced the displacement of thousands of residents while several reports insist that Israeli soldiers have prevented the access of medical personnel to the area, leaving dozens of injured and dead bodies in the streets, said the PLO, adding that “after declaring the area a “closed military zone”, Israeli forces prevented the entry of medical assistance. Paramedic Fouad Jaber was also killed.”
“One of the killed was Palestinian media professional Khaled Hamad, who was wearing a bullet-proof jacket that identified him as a journalist. Al Shujaia is a neighborhood of over 100,000 inhabitants. Its history goes back to the times of the Crusades and several Muslim religious shrines can be found in the area.”
“Israeli disregard to the lives of Palestinians have resulted in the killing of hundreds.”
