A Palestinian young man was shot dead at a military checkpoint in eastern Al Quds Saturday.

Israeli troops opened fire at Aly Mohamed Abu Ghannam, 17, as he was exiting the checkpoint with his brother.

The whole thing started when the Israeli troops insulted Abu Ghannam's brother, eyewitness said, adding this later evolved into clashes and then the troops shot dead the young man.

The Israeli troops would not deliver Abu Ghannam's body to the Palestinian Red Crescent, said the eyewitnesses.

The body was moved by an Israeli ambulance to the Abu Kebeer autopsy center, they added.

The Israeli troops claimed that the young man had attempted to stab one of the soldiers.

The Palestinian Fatah movement, meanwhile, mourned the death of Abu Ghannam, holding the Israeli government responsible for this heinous crime.

Fatah declared a three-day mourning following the killing of Abu Ghannam.

It urged residents of Al Quds to attend his funeral.

Fatah also rejected all oppressive terms set by Israel regarding the burial of Abu Ghannam.
