Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh said that Israel’s closure of Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif for worshippers “undermines peace efforts and keeps the door open for the continuation of resistance”.
At a meeting with a Japanese parliamentary delegation, Tarawneh said that failure to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue will push Arab and Muslim youths to join extremism and terrorism.
“Jordan, under the directives of His majesty King Abdullah II, made reforms in many areas including amending the constitution, establishing the Independent Elections Commission, holding free elections and amending reform laws,” he added.
The speaker also spoke about Jordan’s efforts to fight terrorism as well as services it offers to refugees who are placing an increasing pressure on the Kingdom’s resources.
Tarawneh also thanked Japan for its continued support to the Kingdom, mainly in the economic field.
The Japanese delegation praised Jordan’s role under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II towards regional issues as well as the security and stability that Jordan enjoys despite the situation in the region.
