United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East, Robert Serry, Monday expressed concern for Israel’s killing of two Palestinians in Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah and called on Israel to investigate the accident. “The Special Coordinator calls upon the Israeli authorities to exercise maximum restraint and thoroughly investigate the incident. He also emphasizes the need for calm from all sides,” said a statement issued by his office on Monday. Last week, Serry had warned the Security Council that the Palestinian-Israeli peace process is in “profound and persistent” deadlock, and urged the two parties to negotiate towards a two-state solution.
