Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Khémaies Jhennaoui had a meeting, on Wednesday evening, with Palestinian Ambassador in Tunis Salman El Herfi. The talk focused on the latest developments of the Palestinian cause, in light of the current initiatives related to the request to be sent to the United Nations General Assembly at its next session to recognise the Palestinian State and grant it full membership in the UN. Mr. Salmane El-Herfi stressed the importance that Palestine attaches to the participation of Tunisia in the ministerial committee of the Arab Peace Initiative scheduled for next August 23 in Doha, indicating that this meeting will focus on co-ordinating Arab efforts to support this step. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs reasserted the commitment of Tunisia to support the just cause of the Palestinian people and support all efforts and initiatives aimed to enable the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate national rights, first and foremost their right to build an independent state on their national territory. Tunisia, he said, is member of the Committee on Follow-up of the Arab Peace Initiative and will spare no efforts in this structure to support the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership.
