HE Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipila affirmed that the relations between the State of Qatar and his country is developing constantly in various fields, praising Qatar's efforts in mediating and resolving regional and international disputes.
In an interview with Qatari daily Al-Sharq, the Prime Minister said that Doha Forum 2017 is an example of Qatar's role in supporting humanitarian efforts in various regions of the world, noting that the forum discussed issues of great importance because it addressed issues of development and stability, and most importantly the issue of refugees which has become a global concern.
The Prime Minister hailed Qatar's distinct and good role in resolving disputes through mediation at all levels, noting that Finland would cooperate with Qatar in that regard in order to upgrade relations between the two countries and strengthening them in all fields, especially in trade, renewable energy and education.
He said that the volume of trade between the two countries does not meet his country's ambitions, reaching about 60 million euros a year despite the potential to expand the relations.
The Prime Minister noted a plan to promote investments between the two countries in many areas, such as infrastructure, clean technology, renewable energy, ICT, education and other fields, praising Qatar's achievements and developments over the past 20 years.
On the Syrian refugees issue, the Prime Minister of Finland said that his country is working towards achieving peace through political solutions so that the Syrian refugees can return to their country as soon as possible, noting that number of asylum seekers reached to about 32 thousands in 2015.
He called on the international community to respond to the problems of asylum, especially on humanitarian aspects.
