Senate President, Marouf Bakhit

Acting Senate President, Marouf Bakhit, said Sunday that Jordan has been impacted by conditions in neighboring countries since its creation and now hosts some 1.3 million Syrian refugees, urging the international community to deliver on aid pledges to the Kingdom.

Bakhit said at a meeting with a Chinese delegation, led by Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Qiangba Puncog, that Jordan will do all in its capacity to provide basic services to all the refugees and work to alleviate their plight despite its limited resources and scant international aid.

Puncog said Jordan, an important country in the Middle East and the world, had made major strides in its economy and public services, adding that China endeavours to develop commercial, industrial and investment relations with the Kingdom.

He said Beijing is interested in cementing ties, which began forty years ago, noting his country’s support to help Jordan deal with the influx of Syrian refugees, encourage Chinese firms to invest in the Kingdom and travel agencies to promote tourism to the country.
