At least 40 people were confirmed dead after a ferry carrying more than 500 passengers from Zanzibar to Pemba Island in Tanzania sunk earlier Saturday, Minister of State Mohammed Aboud told reporters. The ferry sank in an area with heavy currents in deep sea between mainland Tanzania and Pemba. About 380 are believed missing, according to media reports.
