Cairo - Arab Today
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said Wednesday that a Russian and Chinese veto of a UN Security Council resolution allowing for a humanitarian truce in Syria's Aleppo would only add to the suffering of residents.
This is the sixth resolution Moscow has vetoed in this regard, Abul Gheit said in a statement.
"It sends a negative message to the Arab world, which is shocked by footage of murder and siege in Aleppo," the AL chief added.
The Arab world expects effective powers to live up to their responsibilities in putting an end to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Syrian city, he noted.
Abul Gheit warned of a real catastrophe, had no truce been reached as soon as possible.
