British Foreign Minister William Hague met on Wednesday the Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Muhammad Kamel Amr, who was on his first official meeting to the country. "I was pleased to welcome Dr Amr on his first visit to the UK as Foreign Minister. We had a productive discussion,” Minister Hague said. “The UK is committed to a stable, prosperous and democratic Egypt, and I welcomed Egypt's steps towards civilian democratic rule,” Hague added according to a Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) press release. Mr Hague also assured the UK’s support to help Egypt overcome future difficulties. The British Foreign Minister said he also discussed the importance of the civil society’s role in building democracy with Mr Amr. Finally, Mr Hague said: “I offered to share the UK's experience of NGO regulation with the Egyptian authorities,” the FCO press release reported.
