Trusted sources in Nouakchott revealed on Thursday that the Democratic Opposition Coordination Committee of Mauritania were about to reveal a petition signed by several national figures,demanding that President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz step down. Meanwhile, the President of the Islamist party \"Tewassoul\", Mohammed Jameel Walad Mansour, stated: \"Ould Abdel Aziz\'s step-down is demanded by our party along with all other factions in the democratic opposition umbrella. The same sources told Arabstoday that the opposition leaders were discussing a new strategy to challenge the ruling regime, which should see escalating measures beginning on April 3 until the hopeful departure of  Abdel Aziz so that \"the country can move to a democratic government which is not subject to military domination\". Mansour on Wednesday said that all elements of the Mauritanian opposition were united in their demand that Abdel Aziz step down. The politician said he was against exploiting religion to justify political tyranny, as well as his support in utilising religious values such as freedom, dignity, and social justice to achieve political reform. Mansour made the statemenst at a ceremony held by the women\'s faction of his party.
