Tripoli – Emad Agag
Oil and finance minister from Mahmoud Jibril’s government , Ali Tarhouni, accused Fawzi Boktef, Commander of Rebels Brigade, and Abdelhakim Belhadj, commander of the anti-Gaddafi forces, as well as the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood of receiving funds and maintaining ‘suspicious’ relations with Qatar. Tarhouni warned Libyan parties associating with “foreign Iideologies”, he said, particularly the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood, saying that France played a role in rescuing Libya which is something that should be taught in schools alongside the role played by Qatar. Regarding his criticism to foreign interventions, which “violate Libyan politics,” and the visit of French Zionist Bernard Levy, who describes himself as the Godfather of the Libyan revolution, Tarhouni stated that he was in fact against it, but could not say so at the time. It is noted that these statements by former Minister Ali Tarhouni were said during a lecture entitled “Contemporary political, economic, and social challenges,” which he delivered in Marj Theater. It is worth mentioning that Tarhouni, born in Marj city east of Benghazi, studied economy in University of Benghazi, and was expelled from it more than once due to his opposition to Gaddafi’s regime, which led him to leave Libya to settle in the United States. He worked as an Economy professor at the University of Washington, where he achieved his Masters and PHD degrees, and engaged in political activities with others in opposition to Gaddafi, to later become an independent figure in opposition
