The UK foreign office on Friday confirmed Syrian ambassador Sami Khiyami's departure from London, saying it was a "matter for the Syrian government". The UK had closed its embassy in Syria on March 1 but hadn't broken off relations with Damascus, saying they were still maintaining links as "we still think it is useful [to do] at this time".
