Scores have reportedly been killed in a suicide attack on a presidential palace in Mukalla in southern Yemen. A number of soldiers from the national guard were killed and wounded in the attack, the BBC reported. Security sources confirmed that the attack was carried out by a suicide car bomb. Medical sources reported that at least 20 were killed in the attack. Sources stated that the suicide bomber was able to cross the first gate of the palace and detonate the bomb near a gathering of officers and soldiers who were having lunch. There was no one inside the palace at the time. A military source indicated that the suicide attack points to Al-Qaeda. In other news, security sources told BBC that a soldier was shot dead by gunmen in clashes with security forces in Aden, south Yemen. These developments followed the swearing in of Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi as president, who succeeded Ali Abdullah Saleh.
