Israeli President Shimon Peres is planning to tell US President Barack Obama that he is opposed to Israeli military action in Iran, a report published in Israeli newspaper Haaretz said Thursday. Peres plans to discuss Iran with Obama when he visits the US at the beginning of March, according to the report. Peres is set to leave for the US next Tuesday, and will meet with Obama in Washington the following Sunday on the sidelines of the annual AIPAC convention. The meeting will take place a day before Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu arrives in Washington who is also set to meet Obama. The meeting with Peres, the report said, will revolve around the issues of Iran and negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. The report said that Peres recently told Israeli and American officials that the statements by certain Israeli officials on the possibility of an attack on Iran was “unnecessary warmongering,” and that Israel should leave the Iran issue to the US and other world powers.
