The head of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) Mustafa Abdel Jalil on Wednesday called for a ceasefire in the town of Al-Kufra. He then accused agents of the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of sedition. Jalil said in a speech addressed through Libya's satellite channel that the armed clashes taking place in south-eastern Libya were “evidence of existence of plots conspired by Gaddafi agents abroad in cooperation with others inside”. He called on the warring factions to resort to dialogue and resolve the ethnic problems gripping the country. He also asked that due opportunity be given for the provision of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the wounded while stressing the need for a ceasefire. NTC spokesperson Mohammed Al-Harizy confirmed on Tuesday night that the attack carried out against Al-Kufra and its airport was caused by armed groups. Violence flared between the Alzaweya and Tabu tribes two weeks ago, with both sides sporting heavy casualties as each tried to impose control over the city. The tribes blame each other for starting the attack and the use of mercenaries from outside the town.
