The Israeli Magistrate's Court in Jerusalem condemned Israeli soldier Sylvia Cheney on Tuesday, on the charge of abusing a Palestinian boy. 22 year-old soldier Cheney had forced a Palestinian boy to lie face down on the ground in the middle of the street while she put an empty gun to his neck screaming, "The Arabs are the sons of adulterers", and "Death to the Arabs", while the boy lay there helplessly. She was serving as a border guard. Israeli sources added that the conviction took place as part of a plea bargain, assuring that the different parties involved had not decided on the type of punishment that should be imposed on the female soldier. However, both the department for the investigation and the police insisted that a prison sentence be imposed. In a similar case, an Israeli court in the city of Haifa condemned two policemen for torturing two young men from a "minority group" - the term which Israel uses to refer to non-Jews, or "The Arabs".
