Iraq has intensified its military presence on the border with Syria in light of the escalation in armed clashes between the regime’s army and the rebel Free Syrian Army. A source in the leadership of the Iraqi border guard said that two regiments of the Iraqi army with 3000 soldiers each were deployed in armoured vehicles. The source said to Arabstoday that Iraqi forces were ordered to firmly deal with any security disturbances may happen in the region. The source, who asked not be named, added that the two regiments have deployed  along on the administrative border of Anbar governorate with Nineveh. "These regiments belong to the military forces operating under Anbar Operations Command and has withdrawn from many areas of the city...it represents the best military unit in Anbar," said the source. The source noted that the enhancements were to assign task forces, police and border guard units stationed in the border area , stating that the local police in Kaaem city set up barbed wire between the territories of the two countries, at distance of one kilometre.
