A family member had driven away 'two minutes' before a part of the roof collapsed on their garage.

An Emirati family of six and their housemaid miraculously escaped unhurt after the roof of their house in Ajman collapsed. A divorced mother, her two daughters, one son and two grandsons were at home when a part of the roof collapsed in the Hamidiya area on Sunday night.

The incident was reported at 9pm.

A third daughter of the woman would have been hurt in the incident had she not driven away "two minutes" before a part of the roof collapsed on their garage, her brother said.

On being notified about the incident, a civil defence team rushed to the spot and evacuated all the tenants.

Brigadier-General Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, director-general of the Ajman Civil Defence, said the team found concrete pieces of the roof scattered across the house.
