The Iraqi Ministry of Interior on Sunday announced the arrest of a senior Al-Qaeda official who organised assassinations targeting many figures in Mosul. The ministry said in a statement that a force from the police directorate for Ninevah province carried out a raid in the Aserjkhana area, which resulted in the arrest of the Al-Qaeda member responsible for assassinations in the region. The detainee holds a fake identity as a lieutenant in the intelligence. The police later transferred him to a security centre to investigate with him. Meanwhile, a senior officer in the interior ministry was injured and his driver was killed in an armed attack carried out by unidentified persons south of Baghdad. A source in the Iraqi police told \"Arabstoday\" that unidentified gunmen fired from silenced guns towards the officer. At least two were injured earlier in a car bomb in Sulaikh, north of Baghdad.
